- גִּנּוּן, גְּנוּנָא, גִּינּוּ׳, גְּנָנָאch. sam(גנון, גינון ganno); 1) cover, shade, baldachin; esp. bridal chamber, state-room. Targ. Y. Gen. 14:13 גננא cover. Targ. Is. 4:5 בגנון (read כג׳, ed. Lag. כגנין, h. text חפה). Targ. Job 15:32 Var. his enclosure (v. כִּילְּתָא) shall not be גנונא ed. Lag. (ed. גננא) a (wreathed) state-room (h. text רעננה; cmp. Cant. 1:16). Targ. Y. Ex. 2:1 גי׳ דהילולא. Targ. Ps. 19:6; a. e.Y.Yeb.XIII, 13c bot. עבד לה גנון if a bridal room is prepared for her. Y.Ber.II, 5a they went מיעבד גְּנוּנֵיה דר׳וכ׳ to prepare the bridal chamber of ; Bab. ib. 16a קטרין ליה גננא wreathed the bridal chamber of Ruth R. to I, 17 (sect. 3) (read:) דיהא גְנוּנָךְ חסרוכ׳ that thy state-room in the hereafter have one jewel less than , i. e. that the jewel given thee in this world be deducted from thy future reward. 2) (v. גני) couch, lreeding place.
